Duties/ Responsibilities

Duties: Under close supervision of higher level professional actuaries, duties may include, but are not limited to, the following:

1. Perform a variety of routine actuarial computations, such as verifying calculations on financial statements, assisting in the computation of premium rates and assisting in the review of rate adjustment applications.

2. Assist in the analysis of technical submissions.

3. Confer with insurance entity representatives, both orally and in writing.

4. Work with agency staff in compiling information and maintaining records; conduct research.

5. Develop, maintain and update databases.

6. Assist in preparing, reviewing, evaluating and analyzing a variety of records and reports specific to the program area assigned.

7. May perform a variety of other duties usually associated with a formal program between the agency and the study program in which the student is enrolled.

Minimum/Preferred Qualifications

MUSEUM CLUB TUTOR

The Museum Club tutor must be an energetic, organized individual who can oversee homework, monitor academic progress, communicate with parents & teachers, and inspire an interactive “love for learning” for kids ages 7-13. We are seeking an assertive, youth-oriented person with the ability to inspire and coordinate educational-support goals & activities.  Hours: Monday-Friday, 2:15-5:15pm. *MUST be available 5 days/week (except during Albany school holidays & vacations.) Non-negotiable hours!  Pays: $10 - $12/hr. (depending on experience) Qualifications: Ideally, undergrad junior/senior or beyond. Candidates should have experience tutoring or working with kids in an educational setting.

MUSEUM CLUB PROJECT LEADER’S design fun, thematic, interactive projects that encourage kids to explore educational concepts through hands-on activity. Project leaders develop monthly plans, create supply lists, and teach daily programs. Activities should incorporate Museum exhibits and connect to school curricula and current events. Applicants MUST have program development experience with children. Hours: Monday - Friday, 3:00-5:00pm. Non-negotiable hours!  Pays: $13 - $15/hr. (based on exp) Qualifications: Educators are usually Masters level individuals with teaching and curriculum development experience although significant experience will be considered.

COMPUTER LAB INSTRUCTOR

The computer lab is designed to encourage inner city students to explore and enhance computer literacy skills. The instructor is responsible for developing a schedule & curriculum for Museum Club children (ages 7-13) and Discovery Squad teens (ages 14-18). The instructor will design and implement a curriculum that inspires youngsters to learn the fundamentals of technology; use educational software & explore interactive websites. Students should become familiar with the Web for research and educational purposes, including: distance-learning activities, webpage design, word processing, PowerPoint, & graphics programs. Hours: 3-5 afternoons/week, 3:30-5:00pm. Pays: $12.00 - $14.00/hr. (depending on experience). Qualifications: Computer teaching experience with young people.

 

TEEN COORDINATOR/ASST. YOUTH DIRECTOR (AYD)

The Teen Coordinator is responsible for the organization and implementation of the Museum's inner city teen educational support program. The AYD works with the Director to recruit, interview, train, and place teens in mentorships & work opportunities throughout the NYS Museum. She/he is also responsible for monitoring the academic and developmental needs of students. The coordinator develops workshops, organizes trips to local colleges & universities and seeks community service opportunities for the teens. Grant reporting, timesheet maintenance & program documentation also required. The job is fast-paced and the individual must maintain program goals and standards while being responsive to the needs of inner city youth.

Hours: Monday - Friday, 2:00-6:00pm (Non-negotiable hours); occasional weekends for community service events.

Pay rate: $15.00/hr. Qualifications: Experience with teens is a must!  Master's level student with youth teaching/counseling experience, although applicants with significant teen experience will be considered.

PRIMARY DUTIES/REQUIREMENTS
Live in the residence hall to supervise Project participants.
Establish/maintain positive, respectful, mentoring relationships w/participants.
Develop, implement, and supervise recreational and social activities.
Supervise participants on short and extended field trips.
Establish positive relationships with parents and other primary caretakers of Project participants.
Uphold duty roster responsibilities.
Implement activities that increase group cohesion, address concerns, and promote open
communication.
Assist in planning and implementing weekly dorm meetings.
Clarify, monitor, and enforce Project policies/procedures, especially as related to student conduct.
Train and supervise peer (participant) mediation teams. Serve on Residential Mediation Team.

Participate in nightly updates, weekly staff meetings, and weekly training sessions.
Prepare participant behavior reports; track participant points; submit weekly activity reports.

 Hi Everyone,

The US Committee for Refugees and Immigrants (USCRI) in conjunction with the Community and Public Service Program (CPSP) is conducting a
program this spring called Refugee Conversation Partners (RCP) in which students will be trained how to teach English as a Second
Language (ESL) to refugee/ immigrant families in the Albany community. Volunteers will be assign in pairs to particular families for
mentoring as well as English teaching.Through this program volunteers will be albe play an integral part in the refugee resettlement
process. In addition to making a positive first impression of the United States for refugees, you will help them make a smooth
transition into their new home.

This opportunity is offered for credit through the CPSP. You may register for 2 credits (60 hrs of volunteering) or 3 credits (100 hrs
of volunteering). You will be expected to complete all of your hours by the end of the semester and complete a small paper or media project
in order to receive the credits. You may also volunteer with CPSP agencies like Third World Impact to count toward your semester hours
as well.

Those of you that are interested in volunteering must register as soon as possible. There are only about seven slots left for volunteers;

 Part-Time Intern Position Description: Harriet Tubman Free School (the high school program of The Free School in Albany) is currently looking to fill a part-time intern position starting at the end of August 2010. Our school serves students ages 14-18 (grades 9-12) from diverse backgrounds and experiences. Interns at our school act as teachers, mentors, and general support to the staff.
